Our History
Safe Families was piloted in Canada in 2011. In 2012, we incorporated as a national non-profit and in fall of 2014 we fully launched our first program in the Greater Toronto Area.
In spring of 2017, we opened two new chapters of Safe Families, one in London, ON and the other in Winnipeg, MB. In January of 2018, we launched a chapter in Kitchener-Waterloo, ON. At the moment, we are actively working in several other cities and regions across Canada to prepare for the launch of more sites.
Our long-term vision is to see Safe Families established in many more cities and communities across Canada.
In the United States, our sister organization Safe Families for Children (www.safe-families.org) was founded in 2002 by Dr. Dave Anderson of the LYDIA Home Association, a Chicago based Christian social service agency, and has since spread to over 30 states and facilitated more than 35,000 placements of children.
